Exploring Osaka Expo 2025

As you may know, Japan is currently hosting Osaka, Kansai Expo 2025, and actually many SWYers are involved, as pavillion organizers, volunteers or visitors, each contributing in their unique way. My experience at Osaka Kansai Expo reminded me so much of SWY in a much larger scale. As SWYAA, we would like to give an opportunity to share some experiences at Osaka Kansai Expo and would like to keep sharing the posts to spread the connections of SWY Alumni Association network!

What is Osaka Expo 2025?

Osaka Kansai Expo is an international exposition that brings over 150 countries in Osaka, Japan to showcase different cultures and explore ideas for creating better future. The Expo is to be held from April 13 to October 13, 2025 with its theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” There are various pavilions to highlight global collaboration, innovation and cultural exchange.

The Expo felt like an expanded version of what we once experienced on the ship.
A place where people from around the world come together, celebrate diversity, and learn from each other’s cultures.

Also, what made this Expo even special was seeing SWY alumni actively participating in Expo. Through the network of SWY, I was able to meet SWYers that I have never talked before!

SWYers Voice ~What was your experience at Expo?~

Asahi – SWY33/ SWY35 from Japan

Seeing fellow SWYers working at the pavilion was truly inspiring. When I visited Expo, I had a chance to meet SWYers from Japan, Zambia and Bahrain- even though we had never met before, we quickly identified each other.
There were over 150 countries at Expo, so of course, my batch countries have their own pavilions! After visiting the Expo, I couldn’t wait to message my friends around the world and say, “I visited your country!”

Macco – SWY21 / SWY30NL from Japan

The highlight of the Osaka Expo was getting to meet SWYers at different pavilions. Since I wore my SWY T-shirt, people came up to me asking, “Are you an ex-PY?” I didn’t get the chance to enter any of the super popular pavilions, but connecting with SWYers made the whole Expo experience even more special. I’m grateful for the SWY network that lets us connect instantly—anywhere in the world, even when meeting for the first time!
